Suggestions for Reporters: May 2, 2025

-As a serious newspaper reader, I’m looking for stories about how smaller businesses who rely on undocumented workers for the manual labor American workers do no relish are surviving. ICE agents are entering these workplaces and chasing away or apprehending these migrant workers. About half of of the workers in the Texas construction industry are undocumented. Also, a large amount of our agricultural harvests rely on undocumented workers. It is backbreaking labor.

All these impacts will start having deep imprints on the way our economy is being wrecked by the Trump/Musk dictatorship. Trump is not interested in an immigration reform agreement that even his Congressional Republicans supported a couple of years ago—until Trump scuttled the bill with angry calls to the GOP leaders on Capitol Hill.

-LL Bean, the large Maine-based mail order retailer, is facing a Trumpian challenge. Last time I looked through their catalogue they indicated “imported” next to over 95% of their products for sale. That means a lot comes from China and other countries Trump has tariff-targeted. Any reporters interested in how LL Bean plans to respond?
